Tool Room Manager

Job Description :
Whirltronics Inc, a full-service metal manufacturer specializing in precision lawn mower blades, has a new opportunity for a Tool Room Manager in Buffalo, MN. The primary function is to manage priority and schedule of tool builds based on customer needs, manage development and training of tool room personnel and quote new tooling needs based on customer requests and specifications. For more than 60 years, Whirltronics has been serving customer metal stamping, forming, heat treating, painting and packaging needs. Managing Responsibilities:
  • Assist in quoting new tooling and tooling components for new and existing production parts.
    • Review print details and specifications.
    • Work with Sales and customers on print details/questions as needed.
  • Schedule the build of tooling for new and existing production parts.
    • Keep the schedule updated.
    • Work with Sales to set build priority and build plan weekly.
  • Perform annual tool room employee reviews.
  • Support/assist in managing tooling components and tool steel inventory as needed.
    • Contact steel suppliers as needed to resolve specific delivery/inventory issues.
  • Manage the development and skill growth of tool room employees.
    • Look for continuing education opportunities.
Other Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Maintains a safe, clean, and well-organized workspace.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement projects.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to read and interpret customer blueprints.
  • Knowledge of GD&T principles preferred.
  • Proficient with Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault to design blank and form tooling for production parts.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, and with Whirltronics team members.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
Education and Experience:
  • AAS degree in Tool and Die or equivalent experience.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
